Ford is offering 4500$ in customer cash on Focus STs. Some have been sitting on lots for 90 days or more. I’ve dealt with some slime this weekend to do test drives and the like but I’ll go back to my main dealership for a square offer. Looks like some bright yellow paint and bucketloads of free money were what it took to get me to consider trading the FiST. Unfortunately, the dealers all offered me waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy below what their trade in estimators were so I’m heading to CarMax this week to see if I can get the cash needed to make this deal make sense. If all goes well, I’ll pay a smaller monthly payment than I do now over a 4 year term instead of the 5 years for my FiST. I still have a year and a half left on it so I don’t want to pay more than I do now and still have a 4 or 5 year loan. I’d rather just pay it off at that point and go from there.
We shall see what the future holds for me....But I won’t complain about getting a FoST. And before nayone says “Look at a GTI” - the VW dealership near me charges *over* MSRP and makes you fight him to get MSRP. Oh and good luck with national rebate programs and the like. Civic Si could be a possibility if the dealers near me get any in. But there’s no money on the hood yet. Again, it’d mean a monthly payment higher than I have now and a long term loan and just......not ready to start that loan over again.

That yellow is hot, but those wheels are ugly.

Luckily I’m likely getting one with the snowflake wheels. I have yet to see one in my area with that split spoke style on the lot.

Nice, those slips spokes look like some Sport Editions peoplebuy to Put snow tires on.

I’m ST circles, we call those wheels “dildos”. They look better when painted; the shiny machined surface with the contrasting paint is what makes them so ugly.

Please please please tell me how CarMax goes.
Trading in my car seems to be the most annoying part of all the transactions I’ve tried. These dealers pull numbers out of their ass it seems and give completely random offers.
I want to take the accord to CarMax but it’s over an hour from me so I don’t want to go unless I can find something else to do there.

A) I already have a Fiesta ST. So already one of you, just with the smaller, lighter one
B) Probably only do some mild mods. Maybe upgrade the brakes and the motor mount. Tune perhaps? I don’t care for fart cannons though so the exhaust will be stock for a long time.
C) I already have a Focus ST stein that I tell people is a Fiesta ST because I couldn’t find a Fiesta ST mug :(

Interesting, is this strictly a financial/new car decision or is there something about the FoST you like more than your FiST?

FiST has over 60k miles and after the dealership busted it up pretty bad and left me high and dry, I’m tired of fixing things on it, as bad as that sounds. It’s been a struggle to see the flaws of the car come up across the board and Ford does nothing. THere are outstanding recalls on it, and many things like an AC blend door actuator, the rear motor mount, SYNC system (the Fiesta ST uses a butchered up hybrid unit for the 2014/15 units that is a mix of other systems.....it sucks) and some other odds and ends should be addressed but Ford doesn’t seem to care.
Behind the wheel - the FiST is much lighter and more “Fun”. But on the track and in autocross events, I can feel the limitations. It’s been a blast to explore the full width of every corner on every track, but I’m tired of constantly giving pointbys because the tracks near me have 2 or 3 decent straights. I can definitely hustle around the cones, but I’m struggling to gain times at the events I go to every year. I have fun doing some giant killing, but I want trophys at the autocrosses. I like surprising people at the lights but I want to be able to comfortably pass the rager in the minivan who about tried to smash me into the divider because how dare I undertake him when he hogged the left lane (though he clearly could do more than 55 in a 70 so.....yeah). That sort of thing.
HOWEVER!!!!
I’m also not about to add on financial burden and ditch a perfectly good car. The 4500$ is the incentive behind seriously considering it right now. Otherwise, I have no issues waiting. FIxing the FiST is annoying, but cheap. And it’s not like it’s a terrible car behind the wheel in any sense of the word. It’s still a ton of fun and I still giggle and laugh on my daily commute.

There’s some local dealer inventory in the Bay Area under $21k

Jesus. Dealer near me listing them at 18600. I could probably toss 4 Grand on the hood of my Civic and walk out with an ST. I wish you hadn’t pointed this out.

In case you didn’t see it, CarMax went over about the same as the Ford Dealerships. So it’s not quite the ssavior for me I hoped it would be. I actually got an extra grand by going to a dealership. Sooooo, yeah. Just a heads up.

Hmm. I appreciate it! I’ll have to swing by when I’m in the area then. Not gonna take a special trip.
Enjoy the FoST though!

Well? Are you going to do it?

Yeah, I hope it works out for you.
And I will indeed! I feel like a grown-up for saying how nice the bigger trunk is, but then I follow it up with how fun it was to dust a GTI on the freeway while hauling two weeks’ worth of groceries and I just end up giggling inside.

Couldn’t talk myself into it. I needed to find just one thing (one thing!) that I could use to justify it over the civic I bought last year instead. Rear seat leg room, anticipated cost of ownership, fuel economy, anything. Couldn’t do it.

BUmmer :( but maybe in a year or two you can get one then when Ford runs another fire sale :P
